Plan org chart scenarios
Scenario plans let you model possible organization changes before applying anything to a live chart.
Create a plan from an existing chart when you need to test a reorganization, planned retirement, unexpected departure, headcount change, or temporary project team.
Plans can be shared with specific people or groups in your organization so they can review and edit the proposed structure.
Assign the planner role
Planning is available to non-administrative staff when the Planner role is assigned to them.
Planners can create and edit plans, but they do not have administrator rights to create or change live organization charts.
- Open the App Settings menu and navigate to the User Security page.
- Search for and select the person you want to assign planning access to.
- Assign the Planner role.
Create a plan
Add, move, and remove positions
After creating a plan, select Edit to start changing the proposed structure.
Editing a plan works like standard chart editing. Put the plan into Edit Mode, then move, add, or remove boxes by dragging them or by using the context menu.
Track changes
As you make changes, they are listed in the left-hand panel under Plan Changes and grouped into joiners, movers, leavers, and vacant positions.
The summary table above the chart shows the total number of changes of each type.
Plan operations
Use the context menu on each chart box to make specific planning changes.
Remove
Removes the position. Any direct reports are reassigned to the manager of the removed position.
Once a position has been removed, it appears in the left-hand panel, where you can drag it back into the plan if required.
Make vacant
Removes the individual from the box while leaving the reporting structure in place.
This is useful when an employee is leaving but you want to keep their position and direct reports intact.
If you drag a position onto a vacant position, you can choose whether the position should report to the vacant position or fill it.
Split a position
Splits an existing position into two positions. These can be one new and one existing position, or both can be new.
Use this when you plan to delegate the responsibilities of a role across two positions.
Open Split Position from the context menu, choose the resulting positions, enter the required details, then select Save Changes.
Merge positions
Merges two existing positions into one position. The resulting position can be one of the two original positions, or an entirely new position.
Open Consolidate Position from the context menu, search for the second position, choose the position that should remain, then select Save Changes.
Share a plan
- Select the visibility button on the right-hand side of the chart menu bar.
- Search for and add the people or security groups that should have access to the plan.
- Set the plan to Published.
- Select Save Changes.
Everyone with access to a plan can make changes. Plans do not have a read-only mode.
