Use conditional rules

Conditional rules let you control how chart boxes are displayed, or whether they are displayed at all, based on the data they contain or the type of chart box.

Rules are evaluated automatically. When your source data changes, TeamOrgChart updates the chart and applies the appropriate effects without requiring manual changes.

Each conditional rule has two main parts: conditions and effects.

Conditions

Conditions define which people or positions the rule applies to.

Each condition contains three elements: a data column to test, an operator, and a value to compare against.

You can combine multiple conditions using AND or OR. With AND, every condition must be true for the rule to apply. With OR, the rule applies when any condition is true.

Effects

Effects define what happens when the conditions are met.

Each effect contains an action and, where required, a configurable impact. You can add multiple actions to apply when the conditions are met.

Create a conditional rule

  1. Enter Edit Mode.
  2. Navigate to the Conditional Rules page from the Chart Settings menu, the Side Panel, or the Configuration menu in Microsoft Teams.
  3. Select Add New Rule.
  4. Under Conditions, select Add a Condition.
  5. In the Configure Rule dialog, choose the data column you want to test, select an operator, and enter the value or values to compare against.
  6. Select Save.
  7. Under Effects, choose the action to apply to chart boxes that meet the conditions.
  8. If required, configure the impact of the selected action.
  9. Configure how the rule is applied and set any user access options.
  10. Ensure the rule is turned on. The rule is applied automatically.

Conditional rule settings

Setting Impact
Allow users to turn rule on/off Shows the rule as a user-controlled option so it can be enabled or disabled while viewing the chart.
Allow users to select conditions Lets users choose which condition values to apply, creating a chart filter.
Apply actions to direct reports Applies the rule effects to people who report directly to a matching chart box.
Apply actions to peers Applies the rule effects to chart boxes at the same reporting level as a matching chart box.
Apply actions to direct and indirect reports Applies the rule effects through all reporting levels below a matching chart box.

Ordering rules

Rules are evaluated in order. If several rules could apply to the same chart box, the first matching rule takes priority. Place more specific rules above more general rules to ensure the correct effect is applied. Drag and drop rules to reorder them.
